It Was Electric

Brief Description: This assignment was intended to introduce us to the culture of zines and how to create the physical structure. We had complete creative freedom over the interior content, so I created different collages on each page using magazine and newspaper clippings. It was my first time working with collage, and I was interested in experimenting with image placement and unexpected combinations. Though I did not have a specific vision going into the piece, I wanted each page to offer something distinct yet feel like they were contributing to one overall story.
Blue Crush Series

Brief Description: For this series of zines, I created another collage with magazine clippings, as well as found materials such as receipts, stickers, and train tickets. Challenges I ran into while reprinting copies ended up contributing to the final products. The original collage did not fully fit on the scanner I used, which forced me to capture different angles and positions of the artwork. The printer I used was also running out of ink, which ended up resulting in a unique color scheme. In the end, I felt that the unintended effects of these roadblocks enhanced the originality and meaning of the zines; each one captures a completely distinct perspective of the original artwork and highlights different aspects that might have otherwise been easy to overlook.
